- Posted on

On 13 and 14 June, the World CLIL 2025 conference brought together teachers, teacher educators, researchers, policymakers, and innovators from across the globe for an unforgettable event held in Maynooth University. With representatives from 26 countries and a range of stakeholders in Ireland including the Department of Education, COGG, the Inspectorate, NCCA, and Oide, the conference marked a significant milestone in the development of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in Ireland.
Over 200 participants took part in a rich programme of academic and professional learning that included thought-provoking keynotes, two symposia, fifty-seven research paper presentations, twenty hands-on workshops, and eighteen engaging poster presentations.
The conference featured a diverse lineup of keynote speakers, each bringing their own depth of expertise and perspective:
– Christiane Dalton-Puffer (University of Vienna) offered a panoramic view of the field with “30 Years of CLIL Research — Looking Back and Looking Ahead”.
– T.J. Ó Ceallaigh (University College Cork) explored the centrality of teacher knowledge in “Beyond Words: Building Teacher Knowledge for Equitable Content and Language Integration”.
– Francisco Lorenzo (Universidad Pablo de Olavide) delved into curricular innovation with his keynote “Adaptation of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages to the Bilingual Teaching of History and Science”.
Over both days, attendees connected across sectors and borders, engaging in deep discussions about pedagogy, equity, and innovation. For delegates ranging from early career researchers to seasoned practitioners, the event created a space for meaningful collaboration, exploration, and reflection on the future of content and language integration
World CLIL 2025 was a celebration of global perspectives, shared challenges, and collective purpose. It underlined the growing momentum behind CLIL as an approach to education that bridges subject and language learning, with learners at its core.
We thank all our speakers, contributors, attendees, and partner organisations for making World CLIL 2025 such a success. The conversations sparked here will continue to shape classrooms, policies, and research agendas long into the future.
