Dr. Kenia Puig i Planella, Teaching and Learning Manager

Kenia joined Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI) in 2012 and currently serves as Teaching and Learning Manager. She oversees the work of the Post-Primary Education Officers’ team as well as the development of a number of key projects to support the implementation of Languages Connect: Ireland’s Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education. Kenia also provides expert guidance in language pedagogy to relevant agencies.
Her areas of expertise include curriculum development, heritage language education, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and intercultural, plurilingual education.
Kenia is currently coordinating the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) project Using ECML resources to support plurilingual and intercultural education for democratic culture. The project supports member states in implementing the Council of Europe Recommendation CM/Rec(2022)1 by developing procedures to evaluate and adapt ECML resources to national contexts.
A graduate of the Universitat de Barcelona, Kenia moved to Ireland in 1992, where she earned an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from University College Cork and a PhD in Second Language Acquisition from Dublin City University. Before joining PPLI, she worked as a language advisor with the Modern Languages in Primary School Initiative.
