Expressions of interest for the role of Development Officer: Language teaching and development

Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI) invites expressions of interest for the role of a Development Officer to teach and develop new and lesser-taught languages Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese or Russian. Remuneration is aligned with teacher salary scale.
The PPLI Development Officers are employed to deliver new and lesser-taught language classes. The classes are delivered in post-primary schools and PPLI Saturday classes, and typically include Junior Cycle short courses, Transition Year language modules, and Leaving Certificate face-to-face, blended or online classes but can include other classes and educational settings. PPLI Development Officers are typically peripatetic and can be required to work on Saturdays. The role also includes developing the target language provision and the promotion of the target language.
Job Specification
The duties of the PPLI Development Officer will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Plan and deliver target language classes which may include Junior Cycle short courses, Transition Year modules or Leaving Certificate face-to-face, blended or online classes in post-primary schools and PPLI Saturday classes as needs arise. Other educational settings may be possible.
• Develop resources for teaching and learning as needs arise.
• Develop, proactively promote and expand the target language within the educational setting(s) and beyond.
• Engage in PPLI CPD and other CPD opportunities under the guidance of PPLI Education Officers.
• Participate and actively engage with MS Teams platform for Development Officers by sharing resources and communicating with colleagues.
• Engage and participate in the educational settings where classes take place.
• Attend PPLI staff meetings when required.
Experience/Qualifications
• Teaching Council Post-Primary (Route 2) registration required. Teaching Council Further Education (Route 1) registration can be considered where registration criteria are not available or in special circumstances where there are other teaching qualifications and experience in educational settings and where registration in Ireland has not been possible.
• Where Teaching Council registration is not possible due to such registration not being in place appropriate teaching qualifications which align with MFL teacher registration criteria.
• Minimum B2.2 CEFR or equivalent.

Skills & Competencies:
• Language proficiency at minimum CEFR B.2.2 level or equivalent.
• Teaching experience at post-primary level.
• Target language resource development, language promotion, and intercultural competence.
• Digital skills for teaching and learning.
• Working as part of a wider team and working on own initiative.
• Ability to travel between locations.
